Valentine’s Day is approaching which means one thing: chocolate! Chocolate is everywhere at this time of year, but why not also celebrate heart health month and make some healthy chocolate instead?

This chocolate is not only heart-healthy, but tasty!

1/2 cup cocoa or cacao powder, sifted if necessary

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

pinch fine sea salt

Optional add-ins:

raw hazelnuts

raw almonds

raw cashews

large flake dried coconut

Heat coconut oil in a saucepan on low heat until melted. Remove from heat and whisk in cocoa/cacao powder and pure maple syrup. Add a pinch of Himalayan sea salt. At this point, you may add hemp hearts, raw almonds/cashews, etc.

Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper and pour chocolate onto it.

Put in freezer (on a flat surface) for 20-30 minutes, until frozen.

Break into pieces. Store in the refrigerator or freezer until ready to eat as it will melt very fast.

Tip: Keep melted at room temperature to dip strawberries or other fruit into!
