Dr.Neetu's monthly Richmond Review article is published this month. Her article is called "The whole foods approach to weight loss". Here is a passage from the article :

Whole foods is a term that characterizes foods with minimal to no processing—meaning, if it came out of the ground like that, it is a whole food.

Dyes, salts, man-made oils, listed on the side of a box as part of an ingredients list, indicates there is quite a bit of processing involved and therefore not a whole food. If the ingredients listed cannot be pronounced, it is not a whole food.
