Thank you all for joining me over the past 4 weeks for the Broken Brain Documentary Series. (Save the Date! We will be putting on another one due to the overwhelming response!) We learned about brain health from world-leading experts, clinicians and researchers. I know all of you found the information very valuable and now understand the new possibilities in improvement of brain health.
During the 4 weeks, I shared personal stories of how my life has been impacted with family and friends suffering from depression, anxiety, dementia and brain injuries. I also shared about how Naturopathic & Functional Medicine can offer effective solutions for addressing the root cause of the problems.
Below is a summary of some of the strategies we discussed in improving overall brain health:
- Improve Gut Health: Our digestive systems are hard-wired to our brains! We learned about the microbiome and how it is so important for protecting and healing our brains. The function of our gut is to digest, absorb and assimilate all the nutrients from our diet and eliminate waste products. It also functions as a barrier to protect us from toxins, allergens and “bad bugs.” Ensuring our digestive system functions optimally is key to healing the brain.
- Reduce Inflammation: The root problem in almost all neurological conditions (and chronic disease) is inflammation. Creating an individualized plan to reduce inflammation in the body is critical for healing symptoms of depression, anxiety, dementia and traumatic brain injuries.
- Healthy Diet: Our diets provide the raw building materials to heal our bodies and to produce energy. In our culture today, are we really eating enough healthy foods to properly nourish our bodies?
- Effective Detoxification: Our bodies are bombarded with toxins from the environment but also produce metabolic waste products that need to be efficiently eliminated. The amount of toxicity we are exposed to can be overwhelming and our bodies simply can’t keep up. Addressing your body’s ability to detoxify is a critical component of staying healthy mentally and physically.
Over the course of the next few months, I will share with you more information on maintaining brain health. Due to the incredible feedback from all of you, we will be showing this documentary series again in September 2018. We plan on beginning the series Thursday, September 13th, 2018. Please share this with all your family and friends!

“ Thank you so much Dr. Lee. It was great information that motivates me to make some changes in my life and also share the info with others “, K.L.
“ This was eye opening for me. I work in the Mental Health Unit at the Vancouver Hospital and sadly, what I see and experience at the Hospital is exactly opposite from what I’ve learned from these experts in the documentary. I really appreciate you opening up this opportunity for us to hear the truth” BY
